New Update: [ 1/7/04 ] — I'm kicking around a few ideas for a brand-new challenge. In the meantime, wouldn't you enjoy 300 Images From 1800 Sites?
The first Intersmash Design Challenge has come to a close. You can view the original challenge number one here. Thank you for all the linkage, emails, and especially your entries. The level of professionalism and creativity was outstanding. I will certainly run another challenge in the future!
~Who Wins?~
Without further ado, I'd like to introduce Daniel Sheppard as the Intersmash Design Challenge Number One winner! You can view the winning entry here.
- Well-commented notes outlining known complications and suggested fixes.
- Allows me to change text sizes within my browser.
- Doesn't rely on absolute positioning or a fixed-width column size.
- Doesn't require "trial and error" placement of containers.
- Validates to XHTML strict with minimal adjustment.
- Tested working in IE5, IE 5.5, IE 6; Opera 5, 6, and 7; Netscape 6, 7, and Mozilla (on PC). Galeon and Konquerer (on Linux). Omniweb and Safari (on Mac).
~Extra Tidbits~
I enjoyed reviewing each entry by hand. Below, I've outlined some of the interesting factoids of the collective submission pool.
- A whopping 70% of the entries used Lorem Ipsum as filler text.
- Only 2% of the entries used javascript.
- 10% of the entries quoted my own words as filler text.
- If there were an award for the zaniest filler text.
- Surprisingly, no one attempted to fubar my submission system. Thank you.
- Only one entry contained nothing more than a mailing address :/
- 26 unique references to Knight Rider.
